3 Ways Cats Are Just Like Humans
If you’ve ever felt like your cat has more in common with you than your coworkers, you’re not alone. Our feline friends may walk on four legs and nap more than we do, but in many ways, they’re just like us! From showing respect to feeling jealous, here are three ways cats prove they’re basically tiny, furry humans.
1. They Get the Zoomies from Boredom and Stress
Ever feel restless when you’ve been sitting too long? Cats do too! When your feline suddenly sprints through the house like they’ve seen a ghost, it’s often because they have pent-up energy or are feeling stressed. Just like humans blow off steam with exercise or hobbies, cats need regular play sessions to help dissipate extra energy and relieve stress.
2. They Show Respect in Their Own Unique Way
Cats may not bow or shake hands, but they definitely have their own way of showing respect. In feline social structures, kittens rub against their mothers, females rub on males, and smaller cats rub against bigger ones to show deference. When your cat rubs around your legs, they’re not just marking you with their scent—they’re showing you respect (and maybe subtly claiming ownership of their human servant!).
Humans, of course, have countless ways to show respect—through words, gestures, or even just remembering someone’s coffee order. But in the end, it’s all about acknowledgment and connection, just like it is for cats.
3. They Get Jealous—But They Move On Fast
Just like humans, cats can get jealous when they feel left out. If you’re giving attention to another pet, bringing home a new cat, or even spending too much time on your phone, you might notice your cat suddenly trying to steal the spotlight. However, unlike humans—who can hold grudges for years—cats experience jealousy only in the moment. Once the situation changes, they forget about it and go back to being their usual, independent selves.
